Southard House Bed and Breakfast Inn
About the Innkeepers
James began his professional life as a naval officer after graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998. After spending five years in the fleet aboard a destroyer and aircraft carrier James taught Naval History for two years at Rice University.
After leaving the Naval Service James transitioned to working as a writer, editor and photographer for a weekly newspaper in northwest Oklahoma.
Several years later James made his most important professional and personal connection when he asked Tammy out on their first date. He soon moved to Enid to be closer to Tammy and took a job as a business and community writer for Enid News & Eagle.
James had spent five years writing about entrepreneurship and small business owners, and always had dreamed of taking the leap into small business ownership. He found in Tammy not only the perfect mate but also the perfect business partner for a bed & breakfast.
James continues to write, while also helping with administrative duties for the inn. He hopes to do some good writing from the basement of Southard House and turn a few nagging concepts into published works.
Tammy began her professional life as a Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist at Meadowlake Area Prevention Resource Center in 1997. She was promoted to Executive Director of the agency in 2007. Tammy worked as the Director there for 5 years, utilizing skills such as marketing, budgeting, billing, writing grants, facilitating grass-roots coalition work, and leading a staff.
The idea for the bed and breakfast spun out of Tammy’s passion for cooking, decorating, and hosting wonderful holiday parties at her home. She believed her gifts and talents were not being utilized at her former job and she was ready for a career change. She had always dreamed of one day owning and managing a bed and breakfast of her own and believed it was time to make that dream a reality.
Because James and Tammy have utilized the skills, gifts, and abilities they possess together, the Southard House Bed and Breakfast Inn has become the most luxurious overnight accommodations available in Northwest Oklahoma. The innkeepers hope you will pay them a visit and see for yourself!
